About Athletes in Action (AIA)

There are over 6,000 spoken languages around the world today. But there is one language that rises above all spoken languages – the language of sports. Sports is so intrinsically powerful that it has the ability to shape a culture, heal a nation, break down political, racial, and economic barriers, and restore national pride. This is what Athletes In Action believes in.

Athletes In Action, a worldwide organization of over 650 staff members and 7,500 volunteers in 94 countries including the Philippines, is an organization of athletes and coaches in the professional, amateur, and collegiate leagues that take active steps to make positive change in the lives of people through sports. AIA International members include the likes of Tim Tebow, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, David Robinson, our very own Chris Tiu, and other renowned sportsmen.

More than the game, the goal, and the glory, Athletes In Action is in it for the greater good of those who have lesser in life. This is what Athletes In Action plays for.

Just last year, Athletes In Action made Christmas Eve celebration truly remarkable for 500 indigent families in Cubao, Quezon City. Led by its officers and member Chris Tiu, AIA gave each of the 500 families a complete “Noche Buena Package.”

Aside from Philippine pride, Chris Tiu, other international sports superstars such as Michael Chang, David Robinson, Avery Johnson, Kevin Durant, Tim Tebow, Chris Paul, Michael Redd, and coaches Tony Dungy, Lorenzo Romar, and the late John Wooden, are one with Athletes In Action in this endeavor of making significant impact through sports.

It is the same opportunity to rise to the ranks of these dynamic sports ambassadors that is what Athletes In Action is extending to the current breed of Philippine university and college athletes.

About AIA Schools Run for School Rooms

On 07 July 2012, Athletes In Action – Philippines, in collaboration with students from University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member universities and colleges, gears up for Schools Run for School Rooms!

This AIA’s first-ever student-based fun run is for the benefit of the Filipino youth who were worst-hit by Typhoon Sendong in 2011. To be held on 07 July 2012 at the Bonifacio Global City, the 3K, 5K, and 10K fun run aims to gather 20,000 runners from rival universities and colleges in Metro Manila and other
youth organizations to run together for a common cause – that of rehabilitating classrooms in calamity-stricken communities. It’s a beautiful unifying event for the benefit of our devastated school children.

To date, 13 universities and colleges have signified their interest to join the advocacy run. These include UP Diliman (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Sto. Tomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), University of the East (UE), Jose Rizal University (JRU),
National University (NU), San Beda College (SBC), San Sebastian College – Recoletos (SSCR), AMA University, University of Makati (UMAK), and we are looking forward for more participants.
