UAAP Appoints New Executive Director

University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Michael Alba announced the appointment of Atty. Rene Andrei Saguisag, Jr., as the Association’s new Executive Director starting 7 August 2017.

Dr. Alba, President of Far Eastern University, the host school of UAAP Season 80, considers Atty. Saguisag’s recruitment as one of the early, exciting developments in the ongoing reorganization of the country’s premier amateur athletic league. “Along with the heads of the member universities now acting as the trustees, for the first time in 80 years, the Association will have an executive director to oversee its operations,” Dr. Alba said.

Rebo, as Atty. Saguisag is more familiarly called, is not new to the UAAP, having been Commissioner of Basketball in Seasons 78 and 79. He will also be serving in the same capacity in the forthcoming season, concurrent to his new appointment.

As executive director, Atty. Saguisag is charged to perform, direct, manage, and oversee a variety of assignments. These include implementing policies; providing support to the Board of Trustees, the Board of Managing Directors, and the UAAP Committees; supervising operations; and undertaking special projects.

He has a JD degree from the Ateneo Law School and is a BS in Sports Science graduate of the University of the Philippines.

His other sports engagements include being Deputy Commissioner of Basketball in Season 93 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Commissioner of the Makabansa Basketball League 2017.

Of his appointment, Atty. Rebo says, “It’s definitely an opportunity that any sports lover will find hard to resist. I also feel that it is another place where I can be passionate and be of help if in a modest way.” Waxing philosophical, he adds, “Nobody knows how long I’ll be here, but I do want my stay to mean something. In Season 80, we Go for Great. I am more than grateful and appreciative.”

Singapore Math and the K-12 Curriculum: Complements and Supplements

Following the success of the Singapore Math Learning Festival last October 2011, the Galileo Enrichment Learning Program once again leads the way in bringing fresh ideas and exciting innovations that school administrators, teachers and parents can use in their classroom and in the confines of the house.

The 2nd Singapore Math Learning Festival will be held on February 9, 2013 at the Crown Plaza Hotel at Ortigas. The conference will focus on how Singapore Math can complement and provide supplementary learning to the implementation of the K-12 program, a new development of the Department of Education.

The K-12 program is an initiative to give students opportunities to master essential skills and competencies by stretching and extending their learning years to the 12th grade. It focuses on depth rather than on breadth, giving them more time to realize the importance of each concept and connect it to more complex and higher learning.

In this age of global competitiveness, parents are looking for schools that would unlock the potential of each child in the core subjects, one of which is Mathematics. Schools are now adopting Singapore Math into their Math curriculum and instruction, which has paved the way in creating excellent critical thinkers and better Math students.

Parents, teachers and school administrators might ask, “What is Singapore Math and how does it fit into the K-12 curriculum?”

Singapore Math focuses on developing critical thinking through mastery of foundational skills. It teaches students a systematic way of learning seemingly difficult math concepts through child-friendly terms and relatable experiences. This complements the K-12 curriculum, as it strengthens key concepts and provides opportunities to apply it in daily activities as well as in other subjects.

There will be concurrent learning sessions that will tackle topics such as the basics of Singapore Math, how Singapore Math can be applied in various activities inside and outside the classroom, manipulatives and materials to enhance a child’s learning capabilities, innovative activities in teaching geometry and fractions, and how Singapore Math helps students transition from basic to Algebraic concepts.

The conference will also feature a plenary lecture by Dr. Queena Lee-Chua – Math professor and multi-awarded educator – and her son Scott Chua, a multi-awarded student and a Carlos Palanca Awardee for Literature.

For more inquiries on the conference, contact the head office at 845-1234 or send an email to

Galileo Logo

Galileo is another learning program for Singapore Math here in the Philippines.

So what could be the difference to our traditional math to Singapore Math? We heard a lot about math in different from other tutoring company and all of them have style in teaching math, but in Galileo their Singapore Math method are being thought properly and easy to understand.

Me and other blogger friend/parents we’re invited to attend and a chance to try Singapore Math by Galileo last 15th of October 2012 at Powerbook, Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City and on that event we learned about Singapore Math. Actually it’s fun if you are willing to learn and an additional skills on how to solve math, I encounter a lot of math during my high school we follow instructions of the math teacher and in college days we even create our own formula to come up on the different solutions, but the same answer.

Now Singapore Math by Galileo are being thought to some filipino elementary students, the main purpose is to be able to understand and have fun learning math in the most easiest way of solving it.

After learning a new helpful and fun way on how to teach math to my son I recommend to all parents to have your kids learn a new and fun way of learning math in Galileo for Singapore Math.

Tutoring Club

Posted: 10/18/2012 in Academe, Advocacy

Chips or Token are available in Tutoring Club not for betting games, but for kids to motivate them into their work sheet and knowledge. Thru this chips kids will be having fun while learning new strokes of math, english and reading. In every chips gathered by the kids is an equivalent to freebies or snacks for kids, so learning math, english and reading are fun too. Motivating kids to learn are the most gift we parents can give. And since we do best to our kids then we can send them to tutoring club to learn more…

When a child has difficulty completing his academic tasks, parents usually turn to a tutor. Traditionally, this tutor works with the child in accomplishing the day to day class requirements. They go over the current lessons together, answer homework, and review for upcoming exams.

At Tutoring Club, that’s NOT the way things work.

Getting into the habit of helping a child complete homework rather than identifying the weaknesses and strengthening the learning skills will not help a child become a successful learner. Tutoring Club does not subscribe to the band-aid approach of just simply addressing academic tasks such as homework and exam reviews. Instead, Tutoring Club believes in building and strengthening the learning foundation, applied skills and learned competencies moving from basic to advanced levels across all academic arenas.

The first step is to identify a child’s academic strengths and areas in which the child may improve. This is achieved through a Skills Assessment Test which pinpoints the specific areas in which a child is experiencing difficulty. Based on the specifically identified skill gaps, an individualized mastery-based Learning Plan is carefully developed.

It’s all about getting to the root of the problem. A child cannot do well in science if his reading comprehension is not up to par with the expected norms of his age. Likewise, progress to more complicated math skills would not be possible if basic addition and subtraction is weak.

At Tutoring Club, the goal is not only to have each child perform at expected academic norms, but to exceed them and have students strive continuously for excellence in all academic endeavors. And this is made possible through the efficient use of modern educational techniques and scholastic modules. Combined with time-honoured systems of instruction to test for a child’s needs, address their goals, and track their progress.

After 32 hours of tutoring, a child’s skill in a specific academic field is guaranteed to improve at least one full grade level.

Founded in 1991, Tutoring Club first opened its doors in the United States through businessman and entrepreneur Larry Schwartz, a veteran of the children’s learning services industry. The first Philippine branch opened in 2007 in Makati, for students at all levels of academic ability, from elementary through high school.

Tutoring Club franchises currently operate in nearly 200 locations throughout the United States. In the Philippines, Tutoring Club has eight branches located in Sta. Mesa Heights, QC; Fun Ranch, Ortigas; Greenhills, San Juan; Bonifacio High Street, Taguig; Power Plant Mall, Rockwell; Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati; Alabang Town Center, Muntinlupa; and Banilad Town Center, Cebu.

Bloggers with elementary kids are invited to witness how Tutoring Club do their work on kids, Tutoring Club is a USA base class of tutoring method. What’s good on send our kids t tutoring club is that our kids will enhance their knowledge in math in different ways. We as a parents should also understand what our kids on too other wise we will be left behind.

Tutoring Club have an advocacy to help kids in Math, Reading and in English and these are the kids who needed the most the kids in our public school and so Tutoring Club will bring the class in each an every public school provided that there will be an spare room for the tutoring club and the rest will be coming from tutoring club.

So why not send our kids to tutoring club and give it a try to our kids to enhance their knowledge in Math.
