16 JULY 2017 – CEBU CITY: Visiting team Davao Aguilas FC, came in as an underdog in an exciting Saturday night match at the Cebu City Sports Center.  The home crowd expected a third straight win from Global Cebu FC, winning over Ceres Negros FC and Stallions Laguna FC just days before.  But the Aguilas thwarted the crowd’s expectation and ended the match with a clean sheet, and a score of 0-0.
Davao Aguilas FC on the other hand, ’upped its game’ after its most recent setback in its own turf last week, after a loss of 5-1.

Coach Gary Phillips says, “I’m very proud of the team’s performance tonight, particularly at the back of last week’s results, which was unacceptable.  But to play a strong team like Global Cebu FC and to stick together and maintain their discipline, and they kept a clean sheet.  I’m very proud of the team’s effort.”
Goalkeeper Marko Trkulja was named Man of Match.

San Miguel Brewery and the Sportswriters Association of Cebu also took the time out  after the match, to hand over the award of recently signed Aguilas player, 19-year old Jordan Jarvis.  Jarvis was conferred the 35th All Cebu Sports Awards Special Citation for excellence in football and contributing to the professionalism of the sport.  This was also Jarvis’ second award from the association.
Jarvis was also named UAAP season 79’s Rookie of the Year for men’s football earlier this year, after Ateneo bagged its 7th UAAP championship.

GLOBAL FC BLANKS…

GLOBAL FC BLANKS LOYOLA MERALCO SPARKS FC, 2-0

COACH MANSON ANTICIPATES AN EXCITING MATCH AGAINST CERES FC ON MARCH 3, WITH AZKALS PLAYERS UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN BOTH TEAMS

28 February 2016 – Manila: There’s no stopping two-time UFL Champion GLOBAL FC now.

Loyola Meralco Sparks FC saw a formidable opponent in GLOBAL FC last Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium as GLOBAL FC blanked Loyola FC, with a 2-0 score.

The Saturday night crowd at Rizal Memorial Stadium saw players Omid Nazari and Arthur Kouassi contributing 1 goal each in behalf of the Leyte-based team.

First goal was by Arthur Kouassi, during the 42nd minute of the first half of the match, while the 2nd goal taking place at the 2nd half of the match.

Omid Nazari, who became a marked man after his hat trick during GLOBAL FC’s UFL opening game against Pasargad FC, was named Man of the Match.

Coach Leigh Manson says,“On Thursday we will have the Ceres game, which is obviously the most challenging among the recent games we’ve had. We are not yet where we should be, but I think slowly, we are gaining momentum which is good.  I think with Ceres next week we probably have to go higher (take it a notch higher).  But when we play against each other, I think you’ll find that the teams lift themselves because there’ll be a lot of Azkals players, playing against each other, they know each other very well and nobody wants to lose that game.”

“GLOBAL FC fans are also encouraged to root for their team this Thursday, March 3.  There is nothing like a stadium full of screaming fans”, Coach Manson adds.

GLOBAL FC vs. Ceres FC takes place on March 3, Thursday, 8:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

AZKALS BEAT MALDIVES, 2-0, IN TUNE-UP MATCH THURSDAY

TICKETS FOR AZKALS VS. UZBEKISTAN NOW AVAILABLE AT WWW.TICKETWORLD.COM.PH

4 September 2015 – Manila: Cautiously optimistic.

This was the latest term used by Azkals manager Dan Palami as he assessed the Philippine national football team’s chances four days before the all-important game against a motivated Uzbekistan on Sept. 8 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

For his part, Azkals coach Thomas Dooley remained grounded, telling the Azkals that Uzbekistan is a strong team with players exposed to top level matches in Europe and Asia.

“We are up against a team that is in 76th place (in the FIFA rankings) with players who have regional experience,” Palami said. The Azkals are ranked 125th in the August FIFA rankings.

He said some players of Uzbekistan are playing in regional football leagues with strong teams, giving them formidable experience and exposure to tough competition. One of the Uzbek players, Server Djeparov, is a two-time Asian footballer of the year, while others play in Russian football clubs like Odil Akhmedov and Vitaliy Denisov.

Based on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website, Uzbekistan is considered one of the best football teams in Asia along with football powerhouses Iran, South Korea, Japan, Australia, United Arab Emirates, and China.

Palami said in order to win, the Azkals should “capitalize on chances afforded to them” during the match. “They (players) should be focused and disciplined and utilize strong defense against the Uzbeks.”

He revealed that they have studied the video of the Uzbeks’ game against the North Koreans last June 16 where the latter surprised the former, 4-2. In the AFC Asian Cup in January this year, Uzbekistan beat North Korea, 1-0, in Sydney, Australia.

Dooley said the Uzbeks would be highly motivated going into the match with the Azkals to make up for their surprise defeat in the hands of the North Koreans.

“I told them (Azkals) the Uzbeks have international experience and technically good and have members who played in Asian and Russian leagues,” Dooley said as he emphasized the need not to be overconfident.

He said the Azkals should not allow the Uzbeks to score first or it would be difficult for the team to recover.

He expressed confidence the Azkals players would be giving their best in Tuesday’s match. “They have been working hard and playing good football.”

“We have a great team where everybody works for everybody,” he added.

Dooley admitted that the Azkals did not give their all-out during the friendly match against Maldives last Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex to avoid unnecessary injuries. The Azkals won, 2-0.

Although Uzbekistan has never qualified for the World Cup finals, it is a regular participant in the AFC Asian Cup and has consistently been the strongest team out of the new countries of Central Asia following the collapse of the former USSR.

Tickets for the Azkals vs. Uzbekistan game to be held at the Philippine Sports Stadium on September 8, 2015 are now available at www.ticketworld.com.ph. Tickets are at P531.80 for Price Zone 1, P331.14 for Price Zone 2 and P125.40 for Price Zone 3.
