Philippines: The stress of the Race gets to Rona

clip_image004

PHILIPPINES (October 28, 2016) – Last episode’s first team, Yvonne and Chloe kicked off leg three with good news – they are heading back to their homeland in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! But first, teams need to travel from Bandung to Jakarta’s Senayan City Mall to purchase their air tickets. At Garuda Indonesia’s office, the teams realize that the earliest flight to KL is the next day at 8.35am.

Right when they land, the teams make a quick dash out. While the other teams are directed to get an airport taxi, Eric asks around for a metered taxi, giving Eric & Rona an advantage. At Menara Great Eastern Building in Kuala Lumpur, teams face their first Roadblock challenge. One of them must rappel down the side of a 300 foot skyscraper to retrieve a flag. Teams that miss the flag or drop it, must attempt the challenge again.

Eric & Rona, Tom & Anita are the first two teams to rappel down while it’s just starting to rain. As Louisa &Treasuri are getting ready, the teams received a lightning warning and they have to head back indoors to wait for the storm to pass. Eric & Rona, Tom & Anita head to KL Sentral Station where they have to take the earliest train to Penang. They are disappointed to find out that the next available train is at 5.50pm, almost 3 hours away, which will give the other teams a chance to catch up.

Once the rain let up, Louisa &Treasuri, Parul& Maggie and Yvonne & Chloe speed down the building easily and they quickly make their way to the train station. Unfortunately, JK & Mike, Alex & Will and Vicky & Rach did not find the flags and they have to retry the challenge again.

Showing that they are resourceful, Louisa &Treasuri are not deterred by the 5.50pm train. They found out that there’s an earlier train at 5.20pm and they decided to ask around for a swap and successfully did so, much to the chagrin of Eric & Rona and Tom & Anita. Parul& Maggie and Yvonne & Chloe managed to get onto the 5.50pm train with Eric & Rona and Tom & Anita. Rach & Vicky went to the wrong train station but they are relieved to find out that there’s an 8pm training, joining JK & Mike and Alex & Will.

The race resets in Penang when the teams rush to the Waterfall Hill Temple, only to find out that it’s closed and will only open after sunrise. Once the temple opens, the teams must make their way up 500 steps to receive their next clue – they have to head to Clan Jetties to search for a clue box among the four Chinese Clan Jetties.

At Clan Jetties, teams face a Roadblock challenge. They must choose between ‘Street Art’ and ‘Street Play’. In ‘Street Art’, teams have to locate a specified number of murals and have their photos taken by a bystander. Each photo taken must satisfy a number of specific poses and tourist participation. In ‘Street Play’, teams have to master 2 minutes of Chinese Opera choreography and perform it in front of a judge.

Alex & Will, JK & Will, Yvonne & Chloe, Rach & Vicky, Parul& Maggie choose ‘Street Play’ while Louisa&Treasuri, Eric & Rona and Tom & Anita choose ‘Street Art’. Both Roadblock challenges prove to be extremely tedious and teams are starting to feel agitated and stressful.

Louisa &Treasuri work their magic with ‘Street Art’ challenge, finding the murals in good time. They quickly complete their challenge and have to head to this leg’s pit stop, located at Hean Boo Thean Temple. At the pit stop, Allan Wu and The Amazing Race Asia season 1 winning team Zabrina& Joe Jer are waiting for the teams and the last team to arrive may be eliminated. Louisa &Treasuri are emotional to find out that they are the first team to arrive while Allan praises them for a job well done.

Alex & Will, Yvonne and Chloe and Tom & Anita are the next three teams to arrive at the pit stop respectively. Team Philippines’ Parul& Maggie and Eric & Rona are the fifth and sixth team to arrive. The stress of the race seems to be getting to Rona, causing her to breakdown at the pit stop.

After much difficulty, JK & Mike finally complete their Roadblock challenge putting them at 7th position, second last place in this leg. Rach & Vicky dejectedly make their way to the pit stop where Allan Wu surprised them that this is a predetermined non-elimination round and they are still in the race!

Rach & Vicky agree that they need to fight less and just focus on the Race.

Coming up in next episode, teams fly to Phuket, Thailand and go up close and personal with the elephants! Teams’ endurance and emotions are tested yet again at the Road Block challenge.

The Amazing Race Asia airs every Thursday at 9pm on AXN. The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 is supported by presenting sponsor Wonderful Indonesia, and partners Garuda Indonesia, Grab and Great Eastern. In the Philippines, Koji-San, Del Monte Heart Smart, Mitsubishi Mirage, Febisco Hi-Ro.

LakbayPasay 101

DSC03433

Bohol to hold travel fair in Glorietta Mall Dec. 8-10

AirAsia’s super low fares to Bohol and bargain hotel and tour deals are up for grabs!

Bohol is moving to become the must go destination in the Philippines as it launches   new and exciting tourist destinations with rock bottom prices for airfares, hotels and resorts during a travel fair to be held in Glorietta Mall on Dec. 8-10.

Bohol provincial governor Edgar Chatto said the province will also formally launch its new branding “Behold…BOHOL,” which positions the province as a destination that exudes a sense of awe in every visitor.

The three day event is the first time ever that tourism sector in Bohol comes together in a massive campaign to entice tourists to visit. It is part of the Bohol Tourism Action Plan developed through the collaboration of the United States Agency for International Development through its Advancing Philippine Competitiveness Project (USAID-COMPETE), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the United Nations-World Tourism Organization (UN-WTO), and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) as well as local tourism stakeholders.

Beach2

Meanwhile, the new branding “Behold…BOHOL” was developed with the help of CNN’s branding expert Anita Mendiratta.  Bohol is the first province that benefited from an outreach program of CNN.

AirAsia, the leading budget airline in the Asian region, is the exclusive airline partner for the campaign and will offer seat sale.  The airline that has been awarded the Skytrax’s World’s Best Low Cost Carrier for six consecutive years is also committed to offer year-round low fares for flights between Manila – Tagbilaran (Bohol) and Manila – Cebu.

At least 50% discount in accommodation, tours and other travel essentials in Bohol will be offered during the three-day travel fair. Boholano products will likewise be on sale.

The travel fair will open in a grand program featuring the world-famous Loboc Children’s Choir. The chorale group will have a nightly concert during the three-day event.

Tarsier

Bohol province is dubbed as the eco-cultural tourism capital with its fascinating  Chocolate Hills, pristine and white sand beaches in Panglao and  Anda.  It is also home to the well-loved Tarsier, considered the smallest and oldest primate in the world.

“We want to develop Bohol as the tourism superpower and a top holiday destination in the Philippines,” said Bohol governor Edgar Chatto.

He said the launch of the ‘Behold… BOHOL’  aims to promote the province as a complete tourist destination because every town has a unique tourist attraction to offer to visitors.

Aside from the iconic destinations, the province is surrounded by caves, tranquil rivers, fascinating water falls, marine sanctuaries, mangroves and diving sites.

LobocRiverAerial

Chatto said Bohol is now promoting the powdery white sand beaches of Anda, as the next tourist destination.  Road and infrastructure access to Anda are underway through the convergence program of Department of Tourism and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that seeks to connect airports to tourist destinations.

Anda is a must visit in Bohol for its  unique and  wider coastlines making it a perfect destination both for relaxing walk on the beach or water sports activities.

The town is also home to the Lamanok Mystical Island and is fast becoming a popular destinations. Lamanok can be reached within a two-hour drive from the capital, Tagbilaran. The island has a rich lush mangrove protecting the community from flooding, pollution and water surge. It hosts some mystical caves where ancient Boholanons bury their loved ones in jars.

Governor Chatto said Bohol is also home to Asia’s largest mangrove forest called Banacon located north of the municipality of Getafe. It has a total of 425 hectares with only 15 hectares dry land and the rest are extensive mangrove plantation.

In a press statement, the Governor credited the strong support and cooperation of  tourism stakeholders in Bohol in promoting the new tourist destinations of the province.

“ The strong partnership between the local government and the private tourism stakeholders, a well equipped manpower with innate hospitality as well as the rich natural, cultural and historical attractions of Bohol are the three main factors why we are confident to become a tourism superpower,” said Chatto.

AirAsia, the Filipino Low Cost Carrier is fully supporting the ‘Behold…BOHOL’  campaign by offering its lowest possible rates for tourists visiting Bohol.

AirAsia, the world’s best low cost airline flies three times daily to Bohol.

“Initiating a future-oriented, mixed-use metropolis, NUVALI nurtures the promise of a distinguished legacy”

Steeped in rich history, NUVALI was once part of the Friar Lands in the 1800s, subsequently acquired by an enterprising group of Americans who developed the property as a sugar plantation at the turn of the century. Lawyer and statesman Jose Yulo acquired the property in 1948, ushering the sugar estate into agro-industrial peace and prosperity. In the mid-70s, the Yulo’s introduced a major planning initiative re-allocating the uses of the land. Industrial, residential and recreational developments were established, beginning a new chapter in responsible stewardship of the property.

Today, guided by a new vision, NUVALI unlocks the potential for both future and existing communities. Situated in the burgeoning Southern Luzon corridor, NUVALI’s vast topography is surrounded by local flourishing communities, shops, schools, sports, centers, parks and hospitals. These and the rich cultural heritage of the region makes NUVALI a part of an exciting thriving district. Initiating a future-oriented, mixed-use metropolis, NUVALI nurtures the promise of a distinguishing legacy, assuring that the land’s history of productivity and success continues for generations to come.

With over 50 years of experience in real estate, Ayala Land, Inc. Has earned a reputation as the country’s leading real estate developer. The company aspires to build top-class products and services, move with scale, and maintain strict financial discipline throughout the company, recognizing that the satisfaction of its customers, patrons, shareholders, and other stakeholders remains the ultimate measure of its success.

NUVALI is a collaboration between Ayala Land, Inc. And the Yulo Family , a merging of efforts to transform the Yulo’s 1,860 hectare property in Canlubang, Laguna into a wholly sustainable community development. The land is divided into three parcels – Ceci, Aurora, and Vesta – and is within one of the most rapidly urbanizing regions in the country. Ayala Land and the Yulo’s recognize the rich potential of this land and advocated its use of establishing a strong future.

LG LU6200

Posted: 09/08/2013 in Tech Balita, Technology, Travel

We just stumbled upon some photos of a yet unannounced LG handset that might be the company’s next flagship. The Android smartphone is supposedly called LG LU6200 and, unfortunately, will be a South Korea-exclusive at launch. Chances are that a global version of it will appear sooner, rather than later.

The LG LU6200 will, reportedly, be the first LG handset to feature a 4.5″ HD screen (1280 x 720 pixels) and it will also be the first one in the world with the award-winning AH-IPS display technology. The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, featuring a couple of 1.5GHz Scorpion cores, 1GB of RAM and the Adreno 220 GPU.

There will also be an LTE radio on board the LG LU6200 allowing for network data transfers with speeds up to 75Mbps. NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and DMB are also a part of the standard equipment (though DMB will certainly be missing outside South Korea).

The highlights list continues with an 8 megapixel camera, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing snapper and a huge 1,830 mAh battery to power the whole thing. All this will be stuffed in a shell weighing just 123 grams and having a profile of just 10.5mm.

Boy, this Holiday season is going to be a time for tough decisions!
